Truc Pham Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Hello, I'm using Affinity Publisher V1 to create a complex digital planner. After it passes 400 pages, the app no longer works for me - it keeps saying "Not responding". Apparently I cannot work on this planner now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Truc My First Planner.afpub Quote
Truc Pham Posted February 13, 2023 Author Posted February 13, 2023 Note: I also want to add that I tried to reboot my computer several times. I even waited until the next day to work on it. The same thing happened. Please help! Quote
Pšenda Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 When loading your file it says missing Resources (probably images). So only their previews are used, so the conditions for viewing/using the file are not identical to yours. MikeTO Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Hi, if you're still unable to open your document you should be able to open it by renaming the folder(s) containing the linked resources. Decline the prompt the re-link the resources. Then try saving it under a new name, renaming the folders back, opening the file, and relinking the resources. Then save again under a new name and see if that works. As soon as I click on anything it keeps giving an error message "Not responding". It's like the software is being overloaded after 400 pages..... Do you have any idea how to fix that? Quote

If you open the document with the folder(s) containing the linked resources unavailable (by renaming them), are you able to edit the document? I'm able to edit your document without issues but I don't have the linked resources available. I even duplicated 200 pages of the document and it worked fine with 600 pages. The issue may therefore lie with the linked resources. You could simplify your document by replacing all of the stars - Product info (17).png - and drops - Product info (12).png - with Publisher's built-in shapes. There are equivalent star and tear drop shapes that could serve the same purpose. And instead of using the planner boxes - Essential Vertical Planner in color 156.tiff - you could create them with a two filled rectangles and group them together. Doing this would eliminate most of your linked resources, provide higher quality vector output, and keep things simpler. Cheers So i tried to rename some folders containing the linked resources (stars, drops, emojies) then decline the prompt to re-link the resources when opening the file. I still can't edit it. Same issue "not responding". Since I can't edit anything, I can't replace those files with Publisher's built-in shapes either. I have been working on this planner for weeks. Now all of a sudden, there's nothing I can do about it. I just tried uninstalling and then reinstalling AP, then rebooted my computer. Still same issue. Would an upgrade to V2 help with this situation? Thanks Truc Quote

First check for the overall memory consumption on your system for that opened APub project/doc, look in Task Manager (Process Explorer on Mac) if it may probably hang due to using too much RAM memory. - Also look if there is still enough free space left on the drive you use that doc. APub V2 will probably use even more resources than V1 here (... beside having even more bugs)! This way, you have no chance to find out which of the specific images may be causing the application to crash. As soon as I click on anything it keeps giving an error message "Not responding". As mentioned by others (who are able to work in your document) the issue seems to be caused locally. This could be font files or resources. I notice an inconsistency in your Resource Manager which possibly influences your local situation: Although your .afpub has a size of 6.4 MB it seems to contain two embedded .tif files with 20.3 MB / 20.8 MB each in several instances. If I select two of its instances, make them linked, turn one of them back to embedded then the file sizes for these .tif files get reported as 324.63 kB. – So it's worth a trial to link these .tif files on your computer. Staff NathanC Posted February 26, 2023 Staff Posted February 26, 2023 Hey All, Truc also got in contact with us via email with this problem, and in the end I was able to sort this for him by creating a new doc and then doing an 'Add Pages from File', he was then able to open and work on the document without any further freezes. It's good to know the workflow via 'Add Pages from File' but it appears more useful to know how to avoid this or a similar situation*.
