Change color of object in Affinity Photo

I have tried every video I could find online to change color of an image in Affinity Photo with NO success. Let's say change a blue car to red - or a orange sweater to purple, etc.  I tried HSL adj - color replacement brush, masks - with no success.

 

In this case I have a pic of a white 6-panel door and would like to change its color to RGB 178/172/150 - with of course keeping the original details, shadowing etc.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I, obviously am missing something key.

 

I am on a MAC, PHOTO V2 (2.0.4.326)

You can get a semblance of that colour but not an accurate rendition because of the lighting of the door, where exactly do you register the point of colour?

So by example...

1. I create a fill layer and change the fill layer colour to the RGB value specified above
2. I change the fill layers blend mode to Colour, it looks a lot brighter than the RGB colour so not a very accurate rendition.
3. You have to be able to pick a point on the door that can represent the RGB colour and we can do that by using the info panel to select a point on the door that will be RGB 178 172 150 because not all of the door can be that value, so...
4. From the info panel click and hold on the target icon on the RGB side and drag to a mid point on the door. This will be RGB 178 172 150 Central and you will see the RGB values for that point on the door in the info panel
5. Next open a curves adjustment layer, we are going to edit the RGB curves to change the RGB values at the targeted point, so, on the curves adjust Click on Master and select Red, move the bottom left node of the red line over to the right until the R value on the info panel changes to R:178, Now do the same for G 172 and B 150.

The door colour should be a shade closer to RGB 178 172 150

You can change the colour without using a colour overlay but thought Id try it anyway
