mrf Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Hi Can someone advise if V1 is available on Mac through the App store? I purchased this on my ipad previously (and use it) but it doesn't show as a purchased app on my Macbook for me to be able to install it.. thanks Quote
walt.farrell Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @mrf. V1 is no longer available for sale, so because you did not purchase it for Mac before it was withdrawn, you cannot purchase it now. The V1 apps were licensied individually and by OS, so a license for one of the V1 apps on iPad would not allow you to use it on macOS. mrf Posted February 14, 2023 Author Posted February 14, 2023 HI Thanks for getting back to me. I purchased it in 2018 and Affinity told me yesterday that I can access it on Mac even though its not for sale? have I missed something? Quote
PaulEC Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 If you already purchased it for iPad, it should still be available to download for your iPad, but you do need to make sure you are signing in with the same credentials as when you purchased it. However, if you only bought the iPad version you can't use it on a different platform. Perhaps they did not understand that you had not purchased it for Mac, but only for iPad. I think its a bit confusing as the advise I was given as the following: "if you've purchased an Affinity V1 app in the past you will still be able to download the app from .. the Purchased Apps section in the App Store, Mac App Store." Presumably people bought the V1 app within the Mac store but this app wouldn't work on ipad? Quote

If you bought the app via the Mac App Store it wouldn’t work on an iPad, and if you bought the app via the iPad App Store it wouldn’t work on a Mac. PaulEC Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 It might make things clearer not to think of it as the "Affinity app". There are three separate pieces of software: Affinity Publisher, Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo. Although there is a lot of interoperability within the apps (such as Studio Link, which is a part of Affinity Publisher, and the ability to open any Affinity type file in any of the three apps.) Additionally, the software is available for three different operating systems: Windows, Mac and iPad. These are not interchangeable nor transferable; you need to buy a separate licence for each app and for each operating system. As of version 2 of the software it is possible to purchase a "Universal Licence" for all three apps, on each of the three operating systems, (giving you nine apps in total!) which gives a very good discount over buying the apps individually. (This was not available for version 1.) The v1 apps are no longer available to purchase, however previous purchases can still be re-downloaded from the store where they were originally purchased. If you don't wish to buy v2 of the software, v1 will continue to work as before. Although there will be no new features etc added to v1, Serif have said that they will continue to to support it to keep it working, as it is. for as long as it is practical to do so. Version 2 of the software does not overwrite Version 1, so both versions can be installed along side each other (assuming you had already purchased v1!). Files from v1 can be opened in v2, but not vice versa. Files saved from v2 cannot be opened in v1. mrf Posted February 15, 2023 Author Posted February 15, 2023 Thanks all. In short - they have been wrongly advising me on entitled to use the app on Mac. They emailed to apologise and blamed it all on one individual who "no longer works for Affinity" - (I last contacted said person yesterday!). Quote
