Hi all,

I've got a problem with an Affinity Designer document where any frame or artistic text box I draw comes with a coloured background and I can't find a way to get rid of it. It's not the text highlight colour. It doesn't happen in all documents but It has happened at least once before in a v1 release of Designer. The blue gradient that is applied is a colour I've used elsewhere in the document so it seems like I've somehow set that as the 'default' fill for any shape. Is this a bug or is there something obvious I'm missing?

Can anyone help?

This is normal, but maybe not always expected.

Sometimes this seems to happen ‘randomly’ but is, up to a point, how the software is supposed to work. (The software uses the ‘settings from the last layer’ when you create new layers but it sometimes seems to do it for strange reasons.)

Select one of the text layers and press the Revert Defaults button (cog with little red line inside it) on the Toolbar to make the whole layer go back to the default settings for that sort of layer.

Ah great, thank you! Maybe I'd hit the sync button next to it at some point. I've been using this app for years and never paid attention to those buttons.

You’re welcome.

I only use “Revert defaults” once in a blue moon, maybe not even that often, but I don’t think I’ve ever pressed the “Synchronise defaults from selection” button.

Note: Those functionalities are also available in the “Edit → Defaults” menu along with “Save” and “Factory Reset” options.

I do not think this is ever normal, nor do I think AD should use any 'last layer settings' for the fill color of a frame or artistic text box. AFAIK, the only way to give a text box a fill color is in Affinity Publisher via its Text Frame studio panel, so if in Affinity Designer a text box has a fill color, it was created in Affinity Publisher & either the document was opened in AD afterwards or that text box layer was copied from Affinity Publisher & pasted into the document in Affinity Designer.

In that case, if Synchronize from Selection was used when that color-filled text box was selected, then you would get the behavior the OP shows so of course Revert Defaults would fix that.

What is just so dumb?

Thank you! I had the same issue and you solved it for me.
