It's difficult to know what is causing the issue, do you have some Assets already in the Assets panel or is it just crashing without any Assets at all? One thing you can try is to reset Designer back to its default settings by holding down the CTRL key while launching the app. When the Clear User Data window appears, click Select All and then Clear. Be aware however that resetting the app back to its default settings will lose any custom settings such as keyboard shortcuts and brushes etc. so if these are important to you then you should back these up before attempting a reset.
