How to set default fill and line for new shapes?

Recommended Posts

The title pretty much sums it up... I cannot figure out how to set the default fill and line for new shapes. In my opinion it should grab the settings of the last previous selected shape. But currently is being set to something different randomly and I cannot figure out why or how.

Hi,

It automatically synchronises each new setting as you make them in the UI. For example, give your object a red fill and the next object you make will have a red fill. Choose a fat line and the next object will have a fat line. It doesn't set defaults based on selection changes though - if you want to do that, just select the object you're after and click the 'Synchronise defaults to the current selection' button on the top toolbar just next to the different Persona buttons.

Hope that helps :)

Matt

That works but seems a bit confusing to me. I think it would make more sense to just use the fill that's set and not relying on that obscure "Use fill" setting. Also, after restarting the software the "Use fill" is forgotten and resets to off.

Can you please explain me what those "Synchronize defaults" and "Reset defaults" button do?

Of course :) Draw two objects, fill one red, the other blue. Now draw another object and it will use whatever colour you last chose. Select that last object and choose 'Reset defaults' and it will set the properties of that object back to the application defaults for that type of object. Select your red object and choose 'Synchronise' and now draw a new object - it will be red. Select the blue object and choose 'Synchronise' and now draw a new object - it will be blue.

It depends on how you expect to work as to whether you'd prefer the Pen Tool to default to using the fill or not - I, personally, usually do have an active fill, but do not want to draw with it. Obviously this is different to what you would expect to do, which is why it's an option. The application should definitely be remembering your preference between sessions and the fact that it isn't means it's a bug and I'll fix it asap :)

Hope that helps :)

Matt

Yeah, I find this particular aspect a bit confusing to be honest but I'm sure you guys will figure out something more intuitive :)

Regarding Project Cuba, glad you liked it! I recently did a new character using AD and it was SO much faster! A blog post is coming soon about it ;)
