luispedrofonseca
The title pretty much sums it up... I cannot figure out how to set the default fill and line for new shapes. In my opinion it should grab the settings of the last previous selected shape. But currently is being set to something different randomly and I cannot figure out why or how. Staff MattP Posted October 9, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 9, 2014 Hi, It automatically synchronises each new setting as you make them in the UI. For example, give your object a red fill and the next object you make will have a red fill. Choose a fat line and the next object will have a fat line. It doesn't set defaults based on selection changes though - if you want to do that, just select the object you're after and click the 'Synchronise defaults to the current selection' button on the top toolbar just next to the different Persona buttons. Hope that helps :) Matt Jens Krebs
luispedrofonseca
Hmm... I think I may have a bugged version because that doesn't work for me. Here's a recording of what happens to me: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13592444/affinity.mov Quote Personal website - http://www.luispedrofonseca.com Follow me on Twitter - https://twitter.com/lpfonseca
Staff MattP Posted October 9, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 9, 2014 If you want the Pen Tool to make filled objects, just check the option on the Pen Tool's context toolbar 'Use fill' and it'll work as you expect :)
luispedrofonseca
That works but seems a bit confusing to me. I think it would make more sense to just use the fill that's set and not relying on that obscure "Use fill" setting. Also, after restarting the software the "Use fill" is forgotten and resets to off. Can you please explain me what those "Synchronize defaults" and "Reset defaults" button do? Staff MattP Posted October 9, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 9, 2014 Of course :) Draw two objects, fill one red, the other blue. Now draw another object and it will use whatever colour you last chose. Select that last object and choose 'Reset defaults' and it will set the properties of that object back to the application defaults for that type of object. Select your red object and choose 'Synchronise' and now draw a new object - it will be red. Select the blue object and choose 'Synchronise' and now draw a new object - it will be blue. It depends on how you expect to work as to whether you'd prefer the Pen Tool to default to using the fill or not - I, personally, usually do have an active fill, but do not want to draw with it. Obviously this is different to what you would expect to do, which is why it's an option. The application should definitely be remembering your preference between sessions and the fact that it isn't means it's a bug and I'll fix it asap :) Hope that helps :) Matt
luispedrofonseca
It does! Thank you! Just one more question... How do I set the "Document Defaults"? To me always goes to no line with grey fill. Is it possible to set this? Staff MattP Posted October 9, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 9, 2014 It's currently not possible - but as I was typing my reply to you, I realised the insanity of not allowing this to be user-defined, so I'll think of a way to add it, sorry!
Staff MattP Posted October 9, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 9, 2014 ...incidentally, your Project Cuba character looks great! :D
luispedrofonseca
Yeah, I find this particular aspect a bit confusing to be honest but I'm sure you guys will figure out something more intuitive :) Regarding Project Cuba, glad you liked it! I recently did a new character using AD and it was SO much faster! A blog post is coming soon about it ;) MattP 1 Quote Personal website - http://www.luispedrofonseca.com Follow me on Twitter - https://twitter.com/lpfonseca
