When working from a file on a remote share, if you lose the remote share the file crashes.  This is true for all the Affinity packages.

You can load the file and sometimes recover, but most of the time you end up losing work.

Adobe, just allows you to save to a local drive if this happened. 

Can something be done to combat this?

Welcome to the forum @Swozza

Yes, shout at Affinity to get network shares sorted and add a fallback save, other than that, work on the file locally and upload afterwards to the remote share.
