I am following an exercise and it tells me to go to channels and click on composite red but there is no composite red in channels only composite cyan magenta yellow black and alpha ? is there a way to get composite red in channels. using v1 of af photo

Sounds like you're working in a document with a CMYK color format, rather than an RGB format. In that case, except by changing the document format to RGB I don't think you can get composite red. The Channels panel is just going to show you the channels that exist in your document.

Thanks Walt I noticed at the top of the channels it does say cmyk how do I change it to RGB sorry if this is simple question but have got into photo after having it for over a year. If I get the hang of it I will think about V2

Document > Convert Format/ICC Profile... in the menu.

But if there's some reason you have a CMYK document you may prefer to adjust the workflow shown in the tutorial, rather than adjusting the document itself.
