A way to display the fallback font?

Recommended Posts

I assume you are using Affinity Publisher, go to Window > Font Manager

This window will pop up

The only thing I can think of is on the Character panel where it says all fonts, click that and you can scroll down to missing fonts but other than that I don't think there is anything in Affinity Designer.

Thank you for pointing this feature out, but sadly this is not what I'm looking for. As you can see in the picture, I chose Snap ITC font for my Japanese text, and Designer somehow manages to display the Japanese characters correctly even though Snap ITC doesn't support Japanese characters. Designer automatically chooses another font that supports Japanese characters in the place of Snap ITC, and I would like to know what font that is.

Export as an svg, here's a numpty example as my Japanese is pretty limited. Using Selection only will cut down the clutter

Adobe did the same thing iirc, but I haven't used it in years so I can't check. Many programs "reintroduce" a font without showing the actual fallback. I just select an actual known legit font as soon as I can and then work on it after... annoying, but a showstopper. (I haven't tried APub but that would be a useful solution to "curate" the text)

Probably a fix won't be added until they rewrite the text engine, ie when RTL/Vertical text is finally looked into. Which is said to be a while.
