RayMK
I sometimes write in multiple languages, and when I use a font that doesn't support the language, Designer automatically chooses a similar font that supports the language I'm writing in. Is there a way to know what font Designer has chosen for me? debraspicher
firstdefence
I assume you are using Affinity Publisher, go to Window > Font Manager This window will pop up Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... RayMK
Thanks for replying. I'm sorry I forgot to mention that I'm using Affinity Designer v2. Do you know how to do this in Designer?
firstdefence
The only thing I can think of is on the Character panel where it says all fonts, click that and you can scroll down to missing fonts but other than that I don't think there is anything in Affinity Designer. RayMK
Thank you for pointing this feature out, but sadly this is not what I'm looking for. As you can see in the picture, I chose Snap ITC font for my Japanese text, and Designer somehow manages to display the Japanese characters correctly even though Snap ITC doesn't support Japanese characters. Designer automatically chooses another font that supports Japanese characters in the place of Snap ITC, and I would like to know what font that is. Thank you for replying! kenmcd
@RayMK You can open the Designer file in APub and then you can use the Font Manager as @firstdefence described above. And you can always do an Export to PDF, and then check what fonts are embedded in the PDF. RayMK and firstdefence
David in Яuislip
Export as an svg, here's a numpty example as my Japanese is pretty limited. Using Selection only will cut down the clutter <g> <text x="55px" y="59.445px" style="font-family:'SimSun';font-size:30px;">こんにちは</text> <text x="212.5px" y="59.445px" style="font-family:'TimesNewRomanPSMT', 'Times New Roman', serif;font-size:30px;">Mount</text> <text x="300.01px" y="59.445px" style="font-family:'SimSun';font-size:30px;">富士</text> </g> <g> <text x="55px" y="155.778px" style="font-family:'MalgunGothic', 'Malgun Gothic', sans-serif;font-size:30px;">こんにちは</text> <text x="223.003px" y="155.778px" style="font-family:'CourierNewPSMT', 'Courier New', monospace;font-size:30px;">Mount</text> <text x="331.021px" y="155.778px" style="font-family:'MalgunGothic', 'Malgun Gothic', sans-serif;font-size:30px;">富士</text> </g> <g> <text x="55px" y="251.979px" style="font-family:'MicrosoftJhengHeiRegular', 'Microsoft JhengHei', sans-serif;font-size:30px;">こんにちは</text> <text x="213.965px" y="251.979px" style="font-family:'ComicSansMS', 'Comic Sans MS', cursive;font-size:30px;">Mount</text> <text x="310.63px" y="251.979px" style="font-family:'MicrosoftJhengHeiRegular', 'Microsoft JhengHei', sans-serif;font-size:30px;">富士</text> </g> RayMK 1 Quote Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/
RayMK
Thank you for the replies, friends! Exporting the file in a different format really helps to identify the font. I hope the developers will add a feature to tackle this issue, but for now, the solutions above will suffice. THANKS 💓 kenmcd and debraspicher
debraspicher
Adobe did the same thing iirc, but I haven't used it in years so I can't check. Many programs "reintroduce" a font without showing the actual fallback. I just select an actual known legit font as soon as I can and then work on it after... annoying, but a showstopper. (I haven't tried APub but that would be a useful solution to "curate" the text) Probably a fix won't be added until they rewrite the text engine, ie when RTL/Vertical text is finally looked into. Which is said to be a while.
