euronesia Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Hi All, Recently I had to use anchors, and at start when I clicked "Show Anchors" it did show the little anchor icon on one of the objects, but then it disappeared and since then "show anchor" doesn't show anything. I've tried it on Affinity Publisher V1 as well as V2 with the same result. am I missing something or there is a bug in showing anchors. Please advice. Cheers Update: Apparently when I use text box and set an anchor to it, the little anchor icon shows normally, then when I create another art text the icon shows. But on art text that was created before the text box it doesn't show. Quote

"Show Special Characters" FYI, Show Special Characters doesn't show anchors, it's a separate command for some reason. 3 hours ago, euronesia said: Apparently when I use text box and set an anchor to it, the little anchor icon shows normally, then when I create another art text the icon shows. I can't duplicate this, I've tried creating Artistic Text with an anchor, a Text Frame with an anchor, and then more of each, and in all cases it shows the anchors. You said the order of creation was important which might mean a layer stack order issue but your screenshot looks like the Anchor 2 object (is it artistic text or a text frame?) is pinned inside the Anchor 1 object (is it artistic text or a text frame?) I tried all combinations of artistic text and text frames pinned inside each other and couldn't duplicate it. Could you please share a sample file for testing? Thanks Hi @MikeTO Sure, here I recreated the problem, as you can see in the attached file. I also marked the order of creation. Really strange. If I don't set the text box as an Anchor just after I create it, it won't show the anchor, but if I make it as an anchor straight away after I created it it shows the anchor, and the rest of the artistic text follows with showing their anchor. None show anchor icon if I create it before the text box. (by text box I mean frame text tool). Btw, is the anchor only meant for text? since it never shows an icon on shape objects which are set as an anchor. AnchorTest.afpub Quote
MikeTO Posted January 26, 2023 Posted January 26, 2023 Thanks for the document. What happened is you attached the anchor to the object rather than positioning it in the text. There is no visual indication of anchored objects in Publisher, just of anchors in text. If you want to change it to a text anchor, you'll need to delete the existing anchor, position the cursor in text, and then insert a new anchor. I think Publisher should reveal object anchors when Show Anchors is selected. It would probably be best to show a blue rectangle or something like that around the object along with an anchor in the corner. euronesia Posted January 26, 2023 Author Posted January 26, 2023 That's strange, because the last two text objects in the file where the anchor is visible I inserted the anchor exactly the same way as the two above, just in different order. I think this could be unfixed bug in Publisher, because it's the same in both v1 and v2 publishers. 🤔 Well, at least now I know that the anchor only shows on text. Wish it did show on all objects with anchors so it could be easier to identify objects with anchors on the page. Quote
Staff NathanC Posted February 23, 2023 Staff Posted February 23, 2023 Hey @euronesia apologies on the delayed reply, The current lack of a visual Anchor indicator applied to objects is currently logged with the developers, so I've bumped it with your report. 🙂 Quote
