Text boxes in AD V1

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to lock a text box but not the text within it? When I try to position the cursor at the start of line of text it is easy to move the text box in error.

If voting made any difference it wouldn't be allowed!

Did you try locking the layer via the lock icon at the top-right of the Layers Panel?
(You can unlock the layer again by pressing the lock icon on the layer you want to unlock.)

Note: I would recommend using more descriptive thread titles so they are more useful to other people when they are searching for similar answers.

What you are suggesting is to put the text box on its own layer and lock it and add the text to another layer. When typing the text on this new layer will it conform to the text box beneath it?

Sorry I didn't see your posting. You say, "Next question?" Can I refer you to my question in the posting directly below this one regarding text box and text on different layers?

No, that is not what I was suggesting.
I suggested to lock the selected Frame Text layer by pressing the lock icon at the top-right of the Layers Panel.
I’ve attached a video which shows the process from beginning to end.

I know that! But if you want to edit the text then you have to unlock the box and we are back to square one where the text box can be moved accidentally.

No you don’t. Just try editing the text while the layer is locked.

OK in that case I'll give a try. Thanks.

What I do as a workaround when the text cursor wants to change into the 4-way move arrow when I try to put it at the start of a line of text is to place it one character to the right & then use the left arrow key to move it back to the start of the line.

For me, it is a quick, simple solution that avoids having to lock the layer in case I want to move it later or select it in the Layers panel before I can edit it when locked.

Yes RC and I do that but how do then drag the cursor for selecting the row and possible a whole paragraph of text without  moving the box?

You could press Shift and use the arrow keys rather than the mouse.
