Hi, I'm a long-time DrawPlus user with literally 1,000s od DP files, which is why I haven't yet migrated to Affinity. However, DP has started to find difficulty in opening newer-version pdfs. Is there a way of upgrading the reader in the DP back office? If not, will Affinity open ALL pdfs, ie, is it backward-compatible?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Affinity can open PDFs created by any app. This is from the tech specs:

PDF and PDF/X compatible

  • Save designs as PDF for sharing
  • Edit and save PDFs for round-trip app compatibility
  • PDF passthrough for absolute display/output fidelity
  • Create and edit CMYK PDF/X files for pro printing
  • Compatible with PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-3, and PDF/X-4

Can the Affinity apps open PDFs created according to the PDF/A specification? Exporting such PDFs from the Affinity apps isn’t currently possible, as far as I’m aware.

I believe Affinity can open but not export PDF/A. I just tried opening a PDF/A file and it opened correctly.

Hi @FlightWay

Just try it out for yourself! Download the publisher and try it for free for 30 days.

However, you should make your purchase decision quickly, because the low introductory price is only valid until 25.01.2023.

On the store page scroll a bit until you see the text button "30-day trial".
