Here is what I do in these cases, unless someone else has another solution, I don't believe there is a merge layers in AD. What I do is group the layers that I want to merge by highlighting them in the layers panel, then CMD+G or right click either highlighted layer, choose group. Then highlight group layer, right-click and choose Rasterize. This should work well for most scenarios. Haven't tried merging every type of object. Like I said this works for me. 

 

There are no filters in AD only in AP, so the Add Noise filter is only found in AP. There is a basic add noise substitute in AD by engaging the Noise slider in the toolbar shown.
