That video is almost eight minutes long and you don’t say at which point you have the problem.

If you can give us more details about what you are doing when the software misbehaves, and the section of the video which you are trying to recreate, then someone might be able to help further.

ACTUALLY, I went back in and tried it again, and when I step the duplicate copy down and over, and then press CNTL/J it pastes all on top of each other forgetting the step over and down.

Thanks for the extra information.

I’m getting some strange results when I try to follow the tutorial so something needs looking into.
What’s shown in the video should work but I’m not seeing what I should be seeing every time I try it.
(I’m not using the same font and I’m using V2 instead of V1 but the results should be similar.)

As for the problem you had, in the first instance, the software should not sit for ages to merge a dozen or so curves together so that’s not expected.

And in the second instance, Power Duplicate only works if you don’t do something between dragging and duplicating. If you do something after dragging, even just de-selecting and re-selecting, then the duplicate will be created where the original was.

On occasion when I get a stalled power duplicate, I revert back to the single layer, quickly do a copy, paste, undo and then start the power duplicate process again, this kind of resets the power duplicate. I also tend to use the Transform panel for more control over positioning and steps.
