Hello!

I purchased and downloaded Affinity Designer 2 (Windows) today but when I double click on the downloaded file (MSIX), the app won't start. A message appears on the screen stating "Windows can't open this type of file (.msix). Try an app of this PC". Can you please help?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Which version of Windows do you have? Affinity v2 requires either:

  • Windows® 11
  • Windows® 10 May 2020 Update (2004, 20H1, build 19041) or later

If you have an older version of Windows 10 such as 1809 then you'll need to update your system.

If you have an up-to-date system and it's still not working you have probably removed or disabled one of the required components but I'm not knowledgeable enough to help with that so somebody else would have to offer suggestions for you.

Good luck!

what MikeTO said about the requirements + if I read this error message correct, you might need to install App-Installer from Microsoft.

Hi all and thank you! I've got Windows 10, build 19044. It therefore looks like that I've got something essential missing. I will now look into the App-Installer from Microsoft.

Thanks again!

I also have this problem.  I have downloaded the Affinity Photo.  When I try to install it with Windows 10 (updated to the latest version), I get the message:  "Windows can't open this type of file (.msix).

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Please give us more details about your Windows installation. From Settings, a screenshot of About. And from a command prompt, a screenshot of the output of winver should help.
