Select a colour with the picker

A colour from the pixel layer immediately below the HSL Adjustment layer? Is it perhaps a placed Image layer? What is the Blend mode and opacity of the HSL Adjustment Layer?

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I tried this with three separate images. Two had just one pixel layer, the third had several layers with HSL adjustment applied to the top layer. Throught the blend mode for layers and the HSL adjustment was Normal. The colour selection was always from the layer below the HSL (the only layer in two cases), actually the HSL adjustment was a child layer (the default with Photo 2). As I said above when a channel other than the right most channel was initially selected HSL worked with exactly the same steps/operation. Opacity of the HSL adjustment unchanged at 100%, ditto blend mode unchanged at Normal.

The far right hue is Magenta. There needs to be Magenta in the image for that to work. It works fine for me.

Could you provide a screenshot showing your preview area (image), the layer stack and the HSL Adjustment dialog?
