pier
To duplicate an object you have to select it first and then drag with alt. This is fine when you need to select multiple objects, but when you only want to duplicate one object it's tedious. You should be able to just alt drag the object to duplicate it without needing to make a selection first. Staff MEB Posted February 10, 2016 Staff Share Posted February 10, 2016 Hi pier, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) You can also use ⌘ (cmd) to duplicate an object. You don't have to select it first when using it. Alt also disables snapping temporarily, so in some cases you may want to duplicate with ⌘ (cmd). pier
Hey thanks again MEB!Why did you change this behaviour to cmd? Alt drag is used in pretty much any software these days to duplicate. It's going to be hard to adapt to cmd...
Staff MEB Posted February 10, 2016 Staff Share Posted February 10, 2016 We didn't change it. It was there from the beginning. Most of the default shortcuts used in the app are a compromise between what's needed to support Affinity's specific features, some standards from other apps (Adobe) when possible, and Apple OS. It's very hard to find a solution that fulfil all the three and due to users requests we have changed them a few times wherever possible. But this one remains as it is because it's also tied to other functions: disabling snapping temporarily and dragging a marquee selection around objects laying above other object(s) without selecting the bottom one(s). Changing it would imply to remap a bunch of them again, which from our tests, invariably ends up leading to a poorlier experience.
