Selecting part of an image to paste it

Recommended Posts

I used  a tool that I believe looked like a dotted rectangle to select part of an image and paste it into type. Now that tool seems to have disappeared from the toolbar. What do I use to for this process? Nothing in the help section helps.

Several of the Selection tools share the same location in Tools, so it could look like one of the other Selection Tools:

See the Help for some examples, and note the icons for the Rectangular, Elliptical, Row, and Column Marquee Tools and the Freehand Selection Tool, all of which appear in the same location by default. You can long click on whichever Tool is showing to get a selection list of tools, or click on the small white triangle on the lower right corner of the icon that's showing.

Also make sure you're in the Pixel Persona if you're in Designer, or the Photo Persona in Photo.

It would help to know which OS & which Affinity app & version you are using, but I think you are asking about the Rectangular Marque Tool.

If so, it may be combined with other selection tools in a single tool position on the Tools panel. If so, you will see one of the dotted line selection tools & a small triangle at the bottom right of that tool's icon. To change to the rectangular one, either click & hold on the icon or on the triangle itself to pop up a menu showing the other tools that share that position on the panel.

Note that you can also customize the tools via the View > Customize Tools (not Toolbar) to add any combination of grouped or ungrouped ones you want.
