photodoc
I'm new to AP but an old hand in Photoshop. I can't see where it's possible to convert an image to a custom CMYK profie and then save it with that profile embedded. I also need the options to use absolute colorimetric as well as relative (w or w/o bpc) and perceptual intents. None of the CMYK profiles show up in the conversion dialog, but I do see them in the default choices. Using the default conversions between color spaces won't work for me however. Staff Leigh Posted February 9, 2016 Staff Share Posted February 9, 2016 Welcome to the forums photodoc :) You will need to change the colour format of the image to CMYK first. Once changed, you should see all CMYK ICC profiles in Convert ICC profile... You can also set the default CMYK ICC profile in Preferences... along with Rendering Intent & Black Point Compensation. photodoc
Are you saying that I should convert to CMYK using the default profile first, and then I'd have to convert it to the CMYK I really wanted in the first place? Double conversions aren't good.
photodoc
Changing the default settings for each conversion is unworkable in my world.
R C-R
I think you might be confusing the defaults set in preferences with the Document menu items Color Profile & Convert ICC profile... The Document Menu items allow you to override the default settings on a per document basis. photodoc
The CMYK profiles weren't showing up there before, but I see them now. Still there is no choice of rendering intent or the originating profile. Is there even a way to display the current document profile? R C-R
I am no expert on color profiles so I'm not sure what you mean by originating profile. To see the current profile you can either select the View (hand) tool -- it will show up in the context toolbar -- or open the Info panel. photodoc
Thanks, that helps. However, I still don't see an option for choosing a rendering intent when doing a profile conversion. For example, perceptual vs. relative or absolute. I see that in preferences, but not under convert to profile.
photodoc
Since there has been no reply to my last comment, I'll assume that Affinity's icc color engine is a non-starter and it makes the program kind of impossible to use as a stand alone editor since I still need Photoshop to do icc conversions with a choice of rendering intents. It's very sad that the software engineers haven't got a clue about real world workflows in professional environments.
Staff Leigh Posted March 7, 2016 Staff Share Posted March 7, 2016 To change the Rendering Indent when converting you need to change the Rendering Indent in Preferences > Colour Profiles before using Convert ICC Profile... Hopefully in the future the option to change Rendering Indent will be included in the Convert ICC Profile window.
photodoc
Thanks. I understood that would work from the outset, but it is very inconvenient to have to change default color setting every time one wants to use a different rendering intent, and it's easy to forget to check what it's set for before each conversion. And what about soft proofing using different intents too? I agree, hopefully the engineers will tend to these issues in the future, but meanwhile I think AP is annoyingly crippled and a color profiling accident just waiting to happen. Kitsune96
Hi! I get that this post is over two years old, but there's something I noticed when trying to figure this out as well. When you first open the program, you'll be in the Photo Persona. You'll want to change over to the Export Persona. From there, you should have a new workspace layout that includes the option to manage the Export Options (forgive me; I'm not great with technical terms). Based on what I tried, you should be able to accomplish something similar to the Convert to Profile command in Photoshop, regardless if it's RGB to CMYK or vise versa. The Export Persona is a life changer; it's a lot easier to manage color profiles once you understand how and where the actions are. I hope this helps you!
