dr john williams Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 I am looking to provide two versions of the same document. The document contains end notes reference e.g. 1 and the associated details at the end of the document. Version 1 is the source document has end notes plus the detailed reference associated with each note at the end Version 2 is the same document but is clean. The end notes are hidden so that these cannot be seen when printed. The end notes would still be on the last pages In a legal document it could be used by the lawyer to validate/reference e.g. Note 1 with the 1 end note detailing the source of the information, for example email sent on 3rd May 2022 by x. The clean document, with the footnote body note number (e.g. 1) and end note reference removed/hidden so it could be given to other parties. The end notes at the end of the document would never be printed. The associated reference would not be known. One way I thought about doing this is to change the note font style from the text colour to white, if the page background is white, for the clean document. So in the text body it would not be seen. This would be printed as a pdf excluding the end notes source references. Is there a better way to globally turn off notes numbers/references in the body of the documents? Is there a footnote style? Thanks John Quote
MikeTO Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Just making the note marker white would lead to a small spacing gap. AFAIK there's no way to remove all notes from a document in one go. Yes, you can use a character style for your note markers using this control: You could use Find & Replace to find all of the markers by style to delete them but if you're just printing the latest version this would be tedious and a waste of time. So like you I gravitate toward making them white. I'd probably edit the style and set the note marker to white and the text size to 1pt or some such tiny size to avoid gaps. I'd do this in a backup copy to avoid saving it by accident. Just remember that you can't distribute the actual PDF digitally. It must be physically printed, and the paper copies distributed.
