Rasterize option in PDF export

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My printer company says for printing PDFs:

Make sure all fonts are embedded.

Vector images should be rasterized.

I do have vector images in the document.

In the export options, if I choose Rasterize > unsupported properties, does this mean that vectors are going to be rasterized, and fonts stay embedded?

Thanks for any info.

Hi Inkster.

  • Choose Embed Fonts > All Fonts
  • Choose Rasterize > Unsupported Properties - don't choose Everything or it will rasterize your text.

Everything gets rasterized at some point when printing, your printer is just asking you to rasterize the vectors in advance so that you can open the PDF and proof it and say it's correct. But the vectors still won't be rasterized with these settings. You'd need to select all of your vector layers and rasterize them through the Layers panel.

Your printer likely doesn't care about a line or rectangle, those are going to print fine. What they're likely trying to avoid is things like warped vectors being cropped when exported to PDF, which is currently a known bug in 2.0.3. Or a translucent layer printing at 100% opacity. Rasterizing all of your vectors in advance puts the responsibility on you to review the PDF and say it's okay.

If you have any vector illustrations, warped text, etc in your document, rasterize those via the Layers panel to make the printer happy but I wouldn't bother with rasterizing simple lines and rectangles. Just my two cents but I've never been asked by a printer to rasterize my vector layers. Others here may have more relevant experience.

Good luck!
