Therefore I m v new to the concept of layers and masks etc. What is the best way to pick these fundamentals? Tutorials? Forum? Any advice please?? barninga Posted February 8, 2016 Share Posted February 8, 2016 among the many ways it can be done, i'd suggest the following one: 1) select the image layer 2) apply a live lens blur filter 3) adjust the controls to get the desired effect 4) click on the icon of the live filter layer 5) select the brush tool, black color, hardness 0 6) start painting on the image where you don't want it to be softened if the area you want to soften is only a small portion of the image, insert a 4-b) step in the workflow: 4-b) invert the effect mask by pressing cmd-i then paint white where you want the effect, instead of painting black where you do not want it.
