Kmau
How do I soften the subject's face or the whole picture?
Madame
I'm not sure exactly what you want to achieve, but. If you.. 1. duplicate your background layer: cmd J 2. Layer>New live filter layer>gaussian blur. 3. Adjust the blur to your liking. It's applicated to the whole layer. 4. Select the (blur) mask 5. Use a soft brush and paint with black where you don't want the effect. Paint back with white. barninga
Kmau, following the same workflow Madame suggested, you may want to try the lens blur live filter (instead of the gaussian blur), it should allow you to mimic a natural soft focus effect. a different alternative is to apply the frequency separation filter and lower the opacity of the high frequency layer: this soften the image by fading details. PhotoNewbie
Barninga - just wanted to thank you. I used your suggestion to add a live lens blur to a photo of my dog to get a blurred background and then "painted" him out. Not a pro photo but I was happy with it.
