I use a lot of embedded documents, but then sometimes have to remove the layers from inside the embedded document and put them directly into the parent document when I no longer need them embedded. Copying and pasting these layers and then dragging them to move them into place causes a runaway memory situation. It can quickly take up all available memory and the program will eventually freeze. This makes using V2 a nightmare. Any help as to how to stop this would be appreciated. See attached file.

I followed the instructions in your attached document but not seeing any issue here (Windows 11 - APhoto 2.0.3)

My memory usage remains constant in Task Manager between 650MB and 690MB, no matter how many times I copy/paste or drag the "Building" layer around

What version of Windows and APhoto are you using?

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Windows Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045
AP Version 2.0.3

Here are some screenshots of memory use before and after. 542.2 is before, 2979.9 is after one paste and move, 9384.5 is after 3 paste and moves.

Edit > Preferences > Performance

Switch off Hardware Acceleration if enabled

It does weird things sometimes

If not that, someone else may be able to advise further

That did the trick. Good call. Seems my CPU is taking a bigger hit, but at least the memory leak is gone.

Good news

I was able to recreate the runaway memory issue by switching on Hardware Acceleration on my PC, so hopefully the Devs will be able to recreate it and resolve it in a future update

(Windows 11 - APhoto 2.0.3)

Good to know it's not just me. Thank you for your help.
