You're welcome, Gary.

By the way, if you want the Basic (and some other) legacy brushes, you can find instructions for downloading them here: https://affinityspotlight.com/article/get-legacy-affinity-brushes/

@walt.farrell

Thank you!

...you are welcome to use these and @ me with what you find.

My Windows PC is quite old, a Dell 9010 with a 3rd gen core i5 CPU and only on-board Intel HD graphics.  Even so, the Photo 2 application installed with out error.  When I launch Photo 2 from the desktop icon created by the installer it presented an activation box.  I can't test beyond that point though as I've yet to buy Photo 2.  However, presumably if my machine did not meet the minimum requirements it would not have got this far so this is probably a good sign.

I understand that without a dedicated graphics card Photo 2 might be a bit pedestrian but my machine has no speed / lag problems with Photo 1.  Or will Photo 2 really grind and be unusable without GPU acceleration?

@Patrick Connor

Hello Patrick, I have attached two photos of V1 of Designer and V2 of the Preferences windows.

V1 font is bright and much easer to read.  V2 even with adjusting the interface options is not as bright and some eye strain.

Any possibility of make this brighter or bolder. I find this smaller font in the interface in general a bit dim against any background.

Thanks

Gary

In Win, the text is consistent.

Thanks, I see that. This thread is not the place for this though. I recommend the V2 Feedback forum, where this may have been pointed out already.

Looks like a large font issue, we need to be much better at accessibility. Again this is not the place

Because we are really busy making it (a 2.0.4 installer that should be ready as soon as 2.0.4 is released) but in the meantime there is already one available in this thread you are posting into, It is 95% the same as the 2.0.4 one so feel free to use that for now

You are right, this is an unofficial unadvertised post, so not surprised it gets missed.

I will update the FAQ next we once we have done a bit more testing

Seems that the MSI versions are faster, more responsive(brushes) and loading faster too.

Slowing down the application could be an unpleasant side effect of sandboxing. However, with version 1, I am not aware that anyone would point out the difference in speed between the application from the AStore and the MS Store.

That would be unlikely as it would mean people running both Astore and MsStore version1 on one machine.

A direct comparison of the two versions is of course optimal, but I was thinking more of a principled complaint about the poor performance of applications from the MS Store.

I have been watching this discussion about MSI installers for a few weeks now. I have used Affinity for various projects and have had no issues with this excellent software.

However, I recently started to develop an interest in creating cartoons using Cartoon Animator 5 and I was happy to learn that I could use Affinity to edit the characters that I create, until I realised there was this MSI issue.

As the deadline is approaching to get the introductory offer, I guess I am going to be forced to buy now. I just hope that all the promises will turn out to be true and that Affinity 2 will work well with CTA5.

As stated in one of the previous posts, it is possible to download a test MSI version and try cooperation with CTA5.

Have you tried the aflaunch.exe method? That should allow the MSIX applications to be invoked by other applications, even when those other applications don't properly handle App Execution Aliases.

Look here in order to see how aflaunch.exe is invoked, it's one launch tool (exe) which you control what to launch (APh, ADe, APub) by passing over appropriate arguments ...

Quote
Usage: aflaunch -a name -b build [args]

-a name : One of the following
    Designer2
    Photo2 [Default]
    Publisher2

-b build : One of the following
    Retail [Default]
    Beta
    MSStore

args : [Optional] All remaining arguments to be passed onto the target application (must be last)

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

For programs I use, those commands are not working hence the question.

No idea if those command arguments after the exe file work with CTA5, lets hope the best for @Cartoon Mike

Are you using the already built exe files in the unzipped download or trying to enter the commands in a CLI editor?

I installed the Publisher windows 2.0.3.exe version - it installed quickly. However, I am concerned that if it will be version 2.0.4 - then nothing is corrected according to previously reported errors - i.e. setting the line thickness in mm (which makes version 2.0.3 completely useless)
