no matter what i do i get no pdf or eps preview thumbnail from designer or photo when exported from either software.

This works fine for me form illustrator and photoshop. I have no issues with seeing a thumbnail in the browser if saved or exported from illustrator or photoshop to eps or pdf.

Ideas or thoughts.

Hi @Altereddezignz

File thumbnails are usually handled by the OS having built in support to preview the file type or an installed app that also supports the file type. Check to see what the default app set to open the PDF/EPS files try changing it to another app that can open them.

If you're running macOS doing a quick search EPS thumbnail preview shows that Apple may of dropped built in support.

In reference to our apps, they have an option in Preferences > General > Save thumbnails with documents, this applies to our native file formats.

That’s the thing. This only happens with designer files.

I have Adobe illustrator as well and I see all the eps files created by illustrator.

I can take an illustrator eps file I can see a thumbnail for and then open it in designer. Then export as an eps out of designer and I am no longer able to see the thumbnail preview.  Same if I create a file from scratch from designer.  I also have the box checked in preferences.

Look under the ADe Preferences (General) settings if this is enabled or disabled ...

I don't think Affinity is able to create the embedded thumbnails for these files. Unfortunately almost all the eps/ai/pdf thumbnailers require the embedded thumbnail data to generate the preview in the OS thumbnail.

The only one I know of that's able to create thumbnails from any eps/ai/pdf is MysticThumbs. It uses Ghostscript to read the actual vector data - the benefit of this is that it creates nice high quality previews instead of the usual embedded low-res thumbnail data.

There's probably a way to batch/script/automate Ghostscript to re-create the thumbnails and embed them back into the eps files... but I've not found a way yet. I've got tons of old vector stock libraries without thumbnails and have to resort to XnViewMP to browse them 😕

I suppose you could batch resave with Illustrator... but that kinda defeats the point of owning Affinity -__-
