Gemini80
I have managed to create a sine wave shape using nodes as you can see in the attached video but the actual body of the sine wave is created with the stroke tool. This would be fine were I not trying to match the size of the sine wave to the other shapes in the design...that's where things get weird. Ideally I would like the sine wave to fit seamlessly with the other shapes but I have not found a way to make this work and I've spent 5 hours so far. Can any design Jedi Masters here assist me? ☺️ Thanks! Screen Recording 2023-01-03 at 23.06.15.mov
loukash
Your ruler and your grid is in pixels, so you seem to be working for pixel precise export, right?Everything must be pixel based then, including stroke units. Non-integer pixel values will cause antialiasing. Work in View > View Mode > Pixels. Don't overdo it with snapping options and candidates, you're getting too many "false positives". "Move by whole pixels" = off! May the pixel be with you. I made the changes you suggested (pls see attached video) and while the top most point of the sine wave is now nicely snapped to the grid, the left and right nodes still do not perfectly sit against the grid. I changed between view models but it did not really change much. Any tips on how to proceed? I would just like the left and right points to snap cleanly along the grid as each shape will get eventually get shadows and gradients and for the sake of the design it should be clean. Grateful for any other tips! Thank you! Screen Recording 2023-01-04 at 13.31.03.mov
NotMyFault
We would need to see the nodes (node tool). You may need to use a small straight line for the horizontal „connector“, and use multiple not connected curves. If you e.g. have a circle segment starting at top / 12 clock, the edge will not always be 90 degree angle, but a few degrees off, even if the handle indicates 90 degree. This is probably by design. So again, to get an curve stroke edge of 90 degree, you need 2 nodes horizontally aligned, and the edge node handle parallel to the line, too. the images below show a special brush to make this visible Gemini80 1 Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | Windows 10 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. I have attached another video showing the nodes on the sine shape - if it is not too much trouble could you upload an image or vid of 2 nodes being horizontal at the edge? When I add another node things get weird and do not behave in a way I would like 😅 Screen Recording 2023-01-04 at 14.09.16.mov

It shows another end node position on the stroke ('butt cap') with an horizontal handle for the end node + an additional node to start the curve. Thanks for you reply - if you watch my latest video you can see that I am not getting those additional nodes at the edge? How do I get those? When I used the pen tool and added nodes the whole line got super weird and elongated 😅.

You do not get them, but set them yourself. – It may be easier to first place the nodes on a straight line, then select all the nodes and distribute them evenly with the Align option in the Toolbar and then move the nodes vertically as desired to create the sine curve. Eddy-2
I don't know if the attachment helps the discussion or maybe helps someone else looking for a sine wave. Its origin is from CAD several years ago. sine.afdesign Gemini80, Alfred and NotMyFault
