(SOLVED) Downloaded Trial version for Windows 10 64-bit. Unable to install.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently attempted to install Affinity Photo 2.0.3, but was unsuccessful. I tried changing the file extension to .msi, but received an error stating that it is an unknown software. As I prefer to only install software that has been certified by Microsoft, I am hesitant to continue with the installation.

Will this issue be resolved in the near future? If so, I would be interested in purchasing Affinity Photo if it is compatible with Cartoon Animator 5. However, if I am unable to install the software within the next 24 hours, I will have to consider other options.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards, Greg T.

SOLUTION:

Change the non-existing extension (which the software developer forgot to add) to .msix and it makes the file able to install.

So change affinity-photo-2.0.3 to affinity-photo-2.0.3.msix

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

It is an MSIX file, and renaming it won't help. What exactly happens when you try to run the MSIX file? If you get an error message, please shuyt us the exact message.

Also, what Windows version are you running? The output from the winver command would be useful.

Make sure you have a correct version of Windows and update if necessary.

Hi,

when I double click on the file, it asks me how I want to open the file.

I think the problem occurred when you downloaded the installation file. I just tried to download the file, and of course the msix extension is included.

Sometimes the file extension is there but not shown Pšenda.

Windows 10:

  1. Open File Explorer; if you do not have an icon for this in the task bar; click Start, click Windows System, and then File Explorer.
  2. Click the View tab in File Explorer
  3. Click the box next to File name extensions to see file extensions
  4. Click the box next to Hidden items to see hidden files

I have firefox 102 (haven't updated to latest yet)... so this issue must be with FireFox 102.  At least I have made it known and a solution for others whom may follow.

However, "not showing" extensions for files of known types should not lead to the fact that the file does not really have this extension. In the OP's case, the extension was created from version 2.0.3 - i.e. ".3".

The fact that you reported a possible problem to other users is completely fine. I was merely responding to your false accusation of the developers that you made here.

Ok.

It didn't have a extension, so microsoft windows didn't know how to run it.

Solution... change it to have the file extension.   I guess nobody is really to blame because I don't know how it happened.

No it doesn't, but, how would you know if the file has an extension or not if the option to show the extension is not enabled. My post was just a simple diagnostic step should a windows user need to check. 🙂

Because File Explorer showed it as a "3 file" in the file-type column, rather than an MSIX file or some other kind of file.

The solution currently is that you'll need to change the extension to have .msix then you'll be able to install.  It downloads without an extension.

They always download with the extension for me. If they're not downloading that way for you, you may have a problem with your browser? What URL are you downloading from?
