RPGeiger Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 (edited) I have an .afpub file created with Publisher 2 (V 2.0.3). After a few days I opened it and the embedded(!) pictures were missing (also in the resources section) and replaced by existing pics. Then I tried to open the same .afpub file in Designer (V 2.0.0). Success: all embedded pictures are still in place here! Test file attached (please do not comment on the content and pic quality at this size) PUBLISHER: DESIGNER: SYSTEM: A1 Plakat Physio Presse.afpub Edited December 29, 2022 by RPGeiger Quote

For me it seems that Publisher has a problem with resource management. Create a new two-page document in Publisher and place the original file. If you make a new document with the same size and place it, you then have the choice to select the page. If you make a doc in Publisher with two pages (non facing) and place the original, This brings the two versions of the page layout. Unfortunately this does not solve the "I can't edit it in a sensible way" issue. When I double-click the "placed" file it opens with the replaced pics. Therefore the "open it in Designer" workaround is in my case better...although I don't know why it works on my machine. Quote

I can only assume that Affinity Publisher has a problem with all image files being called image. So it looks like to me, if I place your .pub-file in a new document: Quote MAC mini M4 | MacOS Sequoia 15.5 | 16 GB RAM | 256 GB SSD AMD Ryzen 7 5700X | INTEL Arc A770 LE 16 GB | 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz | Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (26100.4061) Affinity Suite V 2.6.1 & Beta 2.6 (latest) Interested in a free (selfhosted) PDF Solution? RPGeiger Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 I'm still confused about the difference in outcome on the different machines. Hope that it'll be fixed, soon...going back to V. 1 for a while. 😉 Quote

From another thread: ^ Should have been three unique images, but upon saving, closing and reopening the document they all merged into one. RPGeiger Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 Sounds reasonable! And yes: the files were drawn by drag'n'drop from a desktop messaging app, so I did not realize they had the same name. But they must have been reformatted to TIFF by Publisher automatically. When doing that the Publisher imho should give each image a unique instance name for handling within Publisher. Note to myself in the future: Download images, give unique names and place or embed afterwards. Thanks a lot @loukash! loukash 1 Quote
RPGeiger Posted December 29, 2022 Author Posted December 29, 2022 Additionally I found out the following: I opened the (luckily in Designer it did) working file in Designer via the resources tab I "collected" all images within a single folderAnd here the magic happened: Designer saved the files with an extension (numbers) into the folder AND stored the info in the resources tab now I saved the Designer file with a new name and opened it in Publisher voilá: the file works again in Publisher Screen Recording 2022-12-29 at 03.50.05 PM.mp4 loukash 1 Quote
Staff Patrick Connor Posted January 4, 2023 Staff Posted January 4, 2023 @RPGeiger Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums Thank you for your report of this bug. Please can you confirm that your document was created by copy and pasting the images via your clipboard ? If so I think that you are seeing this problem which affects all our applications on all operating systems, when the files are the same dimensions and were added to the Affinity document in 2.0.0 via Paste. Sorry this was not caught before release. You can go back to using AD 2.0.0 available from this page, as a work around till this is fixed in the next update. RPGeiger Posted January 6, 2023 Author Posted January 6, 2023 @Patrick Connor Yes! It happens by copy/paste from another application (in my case Signal Messenger App) and also by drag and drop from Signal. Thanks for the information! Patrick Connor 1 Quote
Staff Patrick Connor Posted January 27, 2023 Staff Posted January 27, 2023 Sorry that you have experienced this problem with the 2.0.3 release of the Affinity Suite. We have now released 2.0.4 on all platforms, and using that build this problem no longer occurs. Unfortunately if 2.0.3 was used to SAVE your file, those replaced images will need the original images be reinserted/pasted into your files, sorry.
