Affinity Publisher icon on Windows 11 taskbar

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I've been trying to not let this get to me, but now it has become too annoying for me to not raise it. You see, the issue I have is that the Affinity Publisher icon on the taskbar is a completely different size to Affinity Designer and Photo. The icons are fine on the Start menu in Windows 11, so why are they different for the taskbar?

Hope one of the developers can take a look and amend. Apologies that it's not a functional issue but for a designer, it's just 'niggly'.

I thought you were on to something there @Stepaan as my display is scaled to 150% when using 4K monitors. I noticed from your screenshot that you're using 'Dark' mode on Windows 11. I switched to that and lo and behold, the icon is fixed. It's just something to do with light mode. It looks like the icon is being swapped somehow when switched to light mode and the scaling is wrong.

It must be something related to your machine. Look:

Feel like this makes the case for a redesign, too...

Pencil, Shutter, Page Curl... seems like the obvious thing it should be.

Not sure what the four bands signify.

I thought the intention was that they would all represent an 'A' in the icon? I couldn't really see the pencil before now, I had just assumed it was a triangle. I can definitely see the shutter for Photo though.

I thought the icon was representing 3 books with 2 book ends - like you would find on a shelf

Probably has a deeper meaning though

Pages/Signatures inside the publication's cover.

And Photo is just the Iris, the aperture blades. Leaf shutters don't look like that.

Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Scaling is at 150% in both cases.

And scalling 100%?

It seems to be OK now. It is still the same version of Affinity Publisher (2.0.4). Maybe a Windows Update fixed it. (Now only the Remote Desktop icon on the left is wrong. But even this icon looks different, it is bigger now.)

It's just strange that the APublisher icon is the only one without rounded corners, which could also be a mistake in the icon's design.

Oh, you're right, Pšenda. So, only the icon size seems to be fixed. Its transparency is still buggy.

Compare it to the icon of the Remote Desktop App (the red circle). It is bigger now, but still has a gray background. Same behavior here.

Has anyone figured out how to change the default Affinity icons on win 10 taskbar? There is no "properties" to select to change the icon (like was available for ver. 1). I'd like to use my own icons like I do on other programs icons on the win taskbar.

MSI or MSIX installation?
