Allow to specify the print size in the Print dialog

Currently AP does not allow to specify the print size in inches in the Print dialog, like Irfanview does.

Hi Yuri. I believe you're using Windows and while I'm a Mac user and can't see exactly what I'm seeing, I believe you should be able to specify the print size in inches or whatever measurement system you've chosen. This screenshot from the Affinity help system shows cm because that's what the measurement system was set to.

Can you share a screenshot of what you're seeing?

Hi,

In your screenshot there is a setting for the paper size.

However, in order to scale the print on the page, there is only "Scale" field.

I don't see how I specify something like that:, "I'd like Letter size, but the print should be 5"x3" in the middle of that page".

Here is a screenshot from Irfanview to show what I mean:

AP has only Fit Type and Scale.

Oh, you want to specify the scale in inches. No, Affinity won't do that for you, you'd have to do the math yourself and then enter a percentage.

Cheers

Create a Letter size document, place or paste your 5″ × 3″ image in the middle of it, and then simply print the entire page.

I agree, there are many workarounds, but having the option of specifying the print scaling in inches would make life much easier. For example. if I design a wine label, I create hi-res image and do not want to go though resizing/resampling it just to print it the correct size.

I can do some math and calculate scale percentage. But Irfanview, much simpler program, has this feature, and, honestly, I use it to print after I done with the design in AP.

On Windows, it is quite possible to change the print dimensions when printing.

Use Custom settings.

Or specific settings.

Why would you resize the document during printing? Good practice is to create 1:1 document and print it in "Actual size" without scaling it.

@NNN, Yuri P. gives an example. He has a 5×3 inch document, but he wants to print it in Letter size and that it is in the middle. All he has to do is select the Letter size and the model Simple.

It sounds like the OP is thinking like a photographer and people are replying from the context of page layout specialists.

It is not uncommon to take a photo and print the same photo in multiple sizes: wallets, 4x6, etc...  those are all from the same photo (same document) but are simply printed differently.

The OP seems to be asking to set this at the time of print so that separate documents do not need to be prepared/modified for every possible output option.

I'd like to print a high-res image in various sizes in the least number of steps.

Take your original high resolution image* and place it into various Picture Frames on an appropriately sized page in Publisher is the easiest way. If you don't have Publisher then use an appropriately size document in Photo and clip the image(s) with proper sized rectangles. This second method is more tedious because you'll need to manually resize the images to fit the different print sizes.

* many copies for both methods are required

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
