how to produce an image like this in Affinity Photo

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am doing some artwork for a music CD and want to use a portrait similar to the FX used in the attached photo from David Crosby's early LP cover.

My intention is to put a set of 'background' images behind the face (mine...!) so they faintly show through.  Can Aff Publisher do an effect like this?

thanks for any hints and tips.

I didn't think you were being mocked. I suspect the poster may have thought you have more experience, is all. In any event, don't be shy about asking questions. We all started somewhere, especially me. As I said, Olivio has a ton of vids on Photo. He is very informative, from basics to more advanced topics. I primarily use his site to learn Affinity Photo techniques.

The first reply made me feel stupid and mocked.

Sorry thought the screenshot with the shown layer panel does already explain it. - However it's easy to do, load in two images as pixel layers, aka ...

  • your background sundown/or-up image as one layer (nr. 1)
  • and then your face image on top of that as another layer (nr. 2see the shown Layers panel in below screenshot).

After that then select your face pixel image layer (nr. 2) and change it's blend mode from "Normal" to "Soft Light" or "Multiply" ... etc. - Try out which blend mode (for the overblending) looks best for you here. - You can also adjust and play with the opacity setting of the selected layer (...the default is "Opacity: 100%") and if desired then lower the opacity if that looks better for certain selected image layer blend modes!
