I thought that just using the OS X "Stationary Pad" file flag for a saved empty document set up with the desired custom size, resolution, etc. would work since opening a file with that flag set should open a copy of the document, but apparently Affinity ignores that flag & opens the original.

What does seem to work -- sort of -- is to set the Lock flag of the customized & saved empty document. That prevents changes to the file being saved. The problem is Affinity's "Save" used on a work in progress doesn't actually save changes to a locked file & only when you try to close it do you get a message saying the file hasn't been saved. Clicking Save in that message will open a standard save dialog, allowing you to save the document under a new name or in a new location, so if you do that shortly after opening the locked file, it should do what you want.

I look forward to having the option to save custom presets whenever they become available.

Meantime, my simple workaround is to create a blank document with size and dpi as I want, and save this to my Mac. I then open this next time I want to use these presets and save the doc with a new name.
