Hello folks,

A bit unsure how to ask this, but here goes. Is there a way to attach a glow effect only on a character/paragraph style, without going very finicky with layers and adjustment layers?

have multiple Headers that I will want to add the glow effect, however, adding it and adjusting it each time does take a toll on me.

Welcome to the forums @kristkos

As far as I know, there’s no way to apply a Quick Effect to a specific paragraph or character in a Frame Text layer or Artistic Text layer as the Quick Effects are applicable only to whole layers.

You might be able to do something ‘fancy’ with the Stroke, or something else, but I don’t think any solution in that direction would be less “finicky”.

I would be happy to be proven wrong on this – it’s often good to learn new stuff.

Thank you so much for the answer.

I'm trying to achieve something along the lines of below and be consistent, I've used previously GMBinder, but I'm trying to use something that doesn't rely heavily on php/css. The apple picture is so far my result, however, the first was set up as a group and then duplicated. I can use this format, but I feel when it's time to run the PDF, my PC will run out of resources due to high amount of layers.

As a follow-up question, is there a way to inject php/css?

EDIT:  No longer needed. For any future searches. Make 2 text layers. Add effects on 1 nothing on the other. Make both aware of each other.

I would make a pair of Paragraph Styles for the text "Apples are grown...." with a Decoration line above. The pair of styles will have the decoration line set to match the Left / Right justification setting and I would use a Global colour. The Global colour would be applied to the text "APPLE".

Now for the hard part. Make a text frame* with the word APPLE (or Apple with small caps on) and pin it to the text frame with the "Apples are grown..." . Use the pinning panel to adjust it's location.

* This text layer will have an Outer Glow effect applied to it.

Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thank you, will try that as well. I went with the idea of making two text layers(one with fx one without) both being aware of each other with Wrap(I think it works) and editing both at the same time. Works but time consuming. I'm a bit unsure if I want to use this method long term

You can somewhat simulate the effect directly with text styles by adding a transparent outline stroke with a bit stroke pressure (to make it more lively) to text, and stacking multiple transparent paragraph decoration fills with transparent elliptical gradients, i.e. sort of mimicking "old school" vector shadows as created e.g. by the good ole Freehand 9…
