I have a black object on a layer in a logo design.  I need the object in a colour.

I can't find the colour replacement brush, not even as a customise add-in to the toolbar.

What am I missing here?

Designer does not have a Colour Replacement Brush, but Photo does.

If you can give us a full-screen screenshot showing us what you can see, including the Layers Panel with the relevant layer selected, we can probably offer alternatives.

Note: “object” doesn’t give us much information to work from, and “layer” could mean various things.

Is there some reason why you rasterised it?
If you left it in vector form then you could have recoloured it very simply.

No, not really -- I thought a px layer was the way to go when I failed to recolour it first time round

You can assign a new color any time after creating a vector object. Just select it, have the fill tool, move tool or vector shape tool active, and choose a color.

I use iPad screenshots and videos even in the Desktop section of the forum when I expect no relevant difference.

If it is a vector object, it does not matter what tool on the Tools panel you are using. Just make sure the object is selected in the Layers panel & set its fill or stoke color to whatever you want in the Color, Swatches, or (in AD) the Appearance panel.
