Jamie1212 Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 I have been using the iPad app and twice today, I have selected Save, and when I return to the project, my progress has been gone. I have had to redo work and I can't figure out why it doesn't save sometimes. Is there a way to auto-save progress or a way I can troubleshoot the save function? Thanks, Jamie Quote

Next you need to consider how Affinity works. A file is created and stored in the apps sandbox. When you save a copy of this ‘internal’ file, another separate is saved externally in a different format. At this stage the two files are linked. When you edit the internal file and return to the Home Screen the internal file copy is updated. If you now tap the hamburger menu and Tap Save, the External file is updated. If you don’t tap the Save menu the external file will not reflect current edits. Now assume you tap Save a Copy. You now have two external files and one internal file. Changes made to the internal file will need to be ‘saved’ in order to update the external file. Note only the first external file will be updated, the second external file (the saved copy) will not be updated. Autosave can be set to update every 30 seconds. Look in Preference General settings. The default is 300 secs (5 mins). Note that Autosave only updates the internal file so you still need to save to update the external file. If saving with latest version look closely at the info screen that pops up. It will point to the external files location. Check that the file you are linked to is the right file🙂 An earlier version allowed renaming and resulted in the internal and external files having different filenames. Hence it has been removed. Finally you can open or import an externally saved version of your file, creating a new internal file (shown as the Live Doc icon. If you use Open the internal file is linked to the external file, so ‘Saves’ will update the external file. If you use Import, the internal document has no linked external file. You need to Save, creating a new external file. Handy if you want to keep the original document unaltered. Hope this helps you work out what is happening.🙂 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).
