Edilson KS Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Hello everyone, I'm new to Affinity and i'm not able to find where do i go to create a new "Fill" layer inside Affinity Designer v2, or simply edit an already existing one. I imported some PSD files that had Color Fill Layers, those layers were imported as "Fill" inside Designer, but i cant edit them, or join/blend them. It's preferable to use this kind of layers to colorize complex mockups because they can truly save a lot of time, since you do not need to enter the FX panel and add a "Color Overlay" to your object, you just select the layer and select the color on the Color panel, it is so convenient. Just discovered while writing this post that if you group two Fill Layers you can select the desired color for both using the group, but still did not manage to edit them, neither within Pixel Persona, any ideas on how to do it? Thanks in advance, Edilson KS Quote
firstdefence Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Fill layers come under Affinity Photo. To have a coloured layer in Affinity Designer you either have to make a rectangle as big as the document and fill colour it to your choice else, create a pixel layer and in Affinity Designers pixel persona use the Flood Fill Tool to colour the pixel layer the colour you want. Any chance you can upload the PSD? Quote iMac 27" 2019 Sequoia 15.0 (24A335), iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... Hello @Edilson KS and welcome to the forum. Designer does not have fill layers. They are only available in Photo ('Layer > New Fill layer'). There are at least two options: Create a fill layer in Photo and copy and paste it into Designer. This obviously only works if you own Photo. Create a rectangle layer that is a little bigger than your canvas and lock it. You still can edit it's colour by clicking on the layer in the layers panel but it won't move. I hope this helps. d. Edilson KS Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 Thank you guys for the fast response, i ended up using just a vector shape with a clipping mask to colorize the parts of the mockup. De facto there are no Fill layers inside Designer, but if you open a PSD that contains a Photoshop Fill Layer it will be recognized as a Fill just like the screenshot that a posted before, which works just by selecting the object and then the color on the color panel. Interesting thing that we do not have the ability to create these kind of layers inside Designer itself, because they work great. Edi KS. Quote
