Hello,

There is a Welsh Hunspell dictionary created by the Welsh Government (http://techiaith.cymru/data/lexicons/hunspell-cymraeg/?lang=en).

Is there anyway to add this so it can be used in Affinity Publisher V2. I use OSX Ventura on an iMac. I've searched this forum and most of the questions and replies seem to refer to Windows OS. I suspect it won't be straight forward on a mac.

thanks

Ade

To get the spelling dictionaries set up on your Mac, follow this link to github, click the green Code button and download the zip file. Don't follow any of the instructions about 'pip install Hunspell'. They are unnecessary. Simply copy the cy_GB.aff and cy_GB.dic files into ~/Library/Spelling/. That's your user Library folder, not /Library/ or /System/Library/ . There are no Spelling folders in there...

You can now (if you want to) switch your system settings to use the Welsh spelling dictionary:

Most of your Mac applications (eg Safari, Pages...) will now be switched to the Welsh spellchecker.

However...

What @Pšenda's link doesn't tell you is that this will have absolutely no effect on Affinity Publisher or any of the Affinity apps.

What you have to do is to launch Publisher, open a document, open the Character Panel in Studio (Window - Text - Character in v2) and change the spelling dictionary manually in the Language pull-down:

This will work on a per-document basis:

I believe (I haven't tried it) that if you set Welsh as the dictionary and then choose Edit - Defaults - Save that this will fix Welsh as the spelling dictionary for newly-created documents.

Affinity Photo 2.0.3,  Affinity Designer 2.0.3, Affinity Publisher 2.0.3, Mac OSX 13, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel.

woo hoo that works

and a plus is after changing the Welsh for spelling in System Settings I can type emails in Mail in Welsh.

Now I just have to find a way to automaticaly change between British English and Welsh without opening System Settings every time as the Automatic By Language doesn't seem to work correctly,

Many thanks

Ade
