der_gent
Adobe and Quark have an api and hidden textmarks to allow database publishing capabilities in their applications. Is an API in publisher available? Pyanepsion and MikeTO
walt.farrell
No, there are no APIs for Publisher. Serif have said they are working on something but we have no idea when anything might be released. David Cake
Hidden text marks is a great idea for a feature to be supported in the API, when it finally arrives.

der_gent
That's what's needed for database publishing. With a hidden textmark you tell the layout-programm what's to be inserted from the database. With that it'll be possible to update your final layout with the information from the database e.g. update the price information just before the final output (e.g. for printing). The layout program has to know what information the visible text is and to which database row and field it belongs. So this information is stored in hidden text marks so that it does not affect your visible layout. This is essential for database publishing features and an api. Hope it's getting clearer now. Kind regards
Old Bruce
What Publisher has are Fields for Database/CSV/Spreadsheet publishing. That may fill your needs. The thing is if you have one Publisher Document that needs to be updated weekly, or whatever timeframe is used, then you have to Generate a new separate Publisher file each week. Meaning we cannot take last week's (generated) flyer and use that to update pictures and prices, we need to use the original file. 10 hours ago, der_gent said: With a hidden textmark you tell the layout-programm what's to be inserted from the database.
