Save failed because the file could not be written to. Affinity Publisher v2

Recommended Posts

I have tried to save to both local and external drives, done "save as", and tried several variations of file names. I cannot get my affinity publisher file to save due to the error message "Save failed because the file could not be written to." Any help would be appreciated. I am on the most up to date version of macOS.

From the slashes in the file path name, it is almost certainly the macOS.

From the styling of the dialog it is clearly a version of macOS, but the OP also indicated which one:

"Most up to date" more or less does do that, except that some users are not aware that there is a newer update than the one they are using, so it is best to explicitly mention the version number to remove all doubt.

That said, I am not sure what the failure could be caused by since it appears to affect both internal & external drives, & even "Save ass.." as well.

It’s not always possible to save that, of course! :D

Well, I blame my wireless keyboard for that typo -- recently it has been acting really weird, like suddenly adding a bunch of spaces or other characters, as if the key was stuck down.

It might be time for a new one, I guess.

You're posting to the right spot and Serif will reply at some point although they're still pretty busy with the launch of v2.

The first thing to try if you still have the document open is to embed any linked images if there are any. Choose Window > Resource Manager and select all the images and then click Embed.

The next thing to try is restarting macOS - Serif has asked others to do this in the past and that has resolved it.

If that doesn't resolve it, look in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders and then click on Affinity Publisher 2 - it needs access to Desktop, Documents, and Downloads, although only Documents will matter for the issue you're experiencing.

Good luck!

I tried both of these fixes but no luck. All images are embedded and Publisher 2 has access to Documents. Hopefully I hear something soon. I have my file open on my desktop, because I don't want to lose the work. I've exported to PDF successfully but that doesn't help me save the original for other project work.

UPDATE: I was able to edit the file in Designer 2, save it as a Designer file, then open the AF Designer file for editing in AF Publisher 2, and save the file as a Publisher file now. It is a really long work around but at least I can close the file and know it is saved. Luckily, I have the Affinity 2 suite and was able to find this workaround.
