unable to open tif file

Recommended Posts

Hi @Martinr36

The Tif file is virtually just a container and contains metadata in ZIF format (Zoomify Image Format)!

Quote

A ZIF file is an image saved in the ZIF file format (ZIF). This format is used to store multi-resolution raster images for zooming and panning on the web. It contains a collection of small JPEG or PNG images with different resolutions that are loaded depending on the zoom level selected by the user. ZIF files also store metadata that indicates how the images are arranged to form a larger image.

You need a website with three lines of code and a little help from a java script to show the content.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700x | INTEL Arc A770 | 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz | Windows 11 Pro (22621.1485)
Affinity Suite V2.0.4 & Beta 2.1.0.1736

Irfan view displays the file without problem, and where does this zif file thing come from it is a tif file

As @Komatös wrote, .tif is a container file format.  In your file, the .tif apparently "contains" a .ZIF file.  As you say, it does not open in Affinity Photo 2.

However, as you correctly state, it does open in IrfanView.  In that app if you select to Copy the image you can then paste it into APh 2 (I haven't tested this in APh 1 but I think it should do the same thing.)

Win 10 Pro, i7 6700K, 32Gb RAM, NVidia GTX1660 Ti and Intel HD530 Graphics

Long-time user of Serif products, chiefly PagePlus and PhotoPlus, but also WebPlus, CraftArtistProfessional and DrawPlus.  Delighted to be using Affinity Designer, Photo, and now Publisher, version 1 and now version 2.

iPad Pro (11") running Affinity Photo and Designer (iOS 16.3.1) version 1 and all three version 2 apps.

PS CS6, Krita and Gimp open the file without a problem, so Serif has to improve import capabilities (for many formats, exports as well).

After further investigation, I must retract my first assertion. Yes, it's a TIF file, but with additional data that Affinity programs don't seem to support.
