Hello All.

I am completely brand new to this software. I just purchased AD v2 last week and I am struggling to find where all of my 'Styles' are. I've been able to find a handful of tutorial videos on YT that talks about Styles but I haven't been able to locate the majority of the default Styles that everybody goes over - nor do I see the 'Studio' option within my drop down menu under 'View'. There are only 7 Styles that I do see that's here already, BUT, those icons do not match the round 'gear' shapes that I've been seeing in all of the YT tutorial videos that I have come across. What I have looks like squared donuts.

Can somebody PLEEZ help me with getting this all straightened out??! Thanx!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, Wayne.

Styles: The Default Styles for V2 are completely different than the Default Styles for V1. If you own V1, you can export the Styles using the hamburger menu in the Styles panel, and then import that set into your V2 application. If you're looking at V1 Tutorials, that will explain why they're different.

Studio: All the Studio selections are part of the Windows menu in V2. That's covered in the Help, e.g., in the What's new for V2 section. For Designer 2, within the app it's in the Introduction, and online you'll also find it there. Direct online link: https://affinity.help/designer2/en-US.lproj/pages/Introduction/keyFeatures.html?list=newFeatures

Hi @walt.farrell Thanks for the speedy feedback!

Yes, going off of my 'novice level' research of this software today, I can clearly tell that V2 is noticeably different from V1. I have run across videos that goes over over both versions, so I get what you are saying with that. But where my confusion comes into play is, as individuals are going over V2, their Style icons are gear shaped, as well as they display many more default styles - and as I mentioned, I not only have different icons but I have only 7 styles in total, as well. Should I contact Affinity to see what the issue is or what would you suggest?

So with 'Studio' - are you saying that there no longer exists a dedicated menu for 'Studio'? It is all now seamlessly integrated into the overall software? Is that what you meant with, "All the Studio selections are part of the Windows menu in V2"? Or am I misunderstanding you?

In the Help section, all it says in reference to Studio is, "Restyled Studio panels via Window menu" - but I am not familiar enough with V1 to be able to recognize what has been restyled in V2.

Thanks!

Hi @Wayne Burrows

In V1 the Studio was found unter View in the menu bar. In V2 the Studio and all Studio selections can be found under Window in the menu bar.

And well, there are differences in the amount of standard styles.  In V1 there were 24. In V2 there are only 7.

Click to show the different menu positions.

The different shaped icons are just designed that way in V2 and not important

and as Walt said you can use V1 to first export the style categories you want from V1, then use V2 to import them into V2

(You use the hamburger menu in the Styles panel to do this)

Hi @Komatös,

I Greatly Appreciate you answering my question!! So, I'm not missing any 'Styles' - V2 only have 7 by default! Okay, that clears me up on that!

So let me ask you this - Where am I able to go to download the other Styles that were in V1? I saw a demo of some and they looked magnificent! And those aren't any of the 7 that v2 comes with.

Thanks!

Hi @Wayne Burrows

Can you post the link to the YT video, so we can see if the Styles you saw are from the default style pack in V1.

Hi @carl123,

Thanks for responding!

As I stated in my initial post, I am brand new to this software and I don't have access to v1, so that isn't an option for me. Is there a site that I am able to download the Styles that doesn't come default with v2? If you have any links that could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

And I brought up the different looking icons because a gentleman on YT was giving a brief demo on the styles and up until a few minutes ago, I >>THOUGHT<< that he was using v2 but I now see that he was actually using ADv1. So it all makes sense now.

Yes @Komatös, you are correct. I don't have v1. And I was mistaken about that YT video. I must have mixed it up with a different one where the person was demonstrating v2. I've been looking at a TON of AD videos over the past few hours. LOL. I'll try the link and see if I can get lucky. Thanks!

I would've thought that Affinity would have a site that would have all of their Styles available for download but so far, I can't find them anywhere.

There is no site from Serif other than the Store, were Serif offers Add-Ons which that can include styles.

@Wayne Burrows, I apologize, I really believed you already had V1 to get those styles. I exported them and attach them here for you. Just import them in V2..

@Wayne Burrows  I am so glad that you are on your way.  When you have some extra time, do go through the Resources section of the Forums, per @Komatös posting above.  There are masses of free styles categories that have been contributed by Forum members, which you can download and then import to Designer (and Photo and Publisher).  Do scroll through page after page in the Forum.  You will be very surprised.

Now that we are in the holiday season, you might try putting “Christmas trees” in the Forums Search bar.  You should find @v_kyr’s magnificent Assets there.  (If the Assets Panel isn’t showing, go to WINDOW on your menu bar, and put a checkmark beside Assets.)  The panel should pop up on the left Studio.  You download Assets in the same way and import them into your panel the same way as you do with Styles.  Once there in your Assets Panel, you simply choose a tree icon and drag it over to your canvas.  (This was the first happy surprise I discovered the day I bought my first Designer V1. something, a few days before Christmas that year.)

Hope you learn to love Designer as much as I love all three!!

Edit at 13:24 hours:  Here is how to find the various panels which you may wish to put on your workspace.  Note that both the Left Studio and the Right Studio should have a checkmark.

Another tip.  When you have your workspace arranged the way you would like it, you can add a Preset so that each time you open Designer, everything will be lined up the way you want it.  (Or if you move some panels, then lose one or two, you can quickly restore everything the way you would like.)   You click on WINDOW>Studio>Add Preset and a little popup window will appear, asking you to name your preset.  You can make as many presets as you would like.  As you can see, I have the very boring title of "my generic setup" as my first chosen preset in Designer.

Hi @jmwellborn

Thanks for reaching out. I appreciate the well wishes along with the helpful tips.

I found 'Studio' with no problem. I was also able to locate 'Assets' under 'Windows' as well.

In the left studio, I'm able to get these various categories (within my screenshot) when I choose 'Simply Flat Icons' in that drop-down box above. But, when I choose 'Default' within that drop-down box, Assets do show up right below it, but there are no options/icons available for it at all. Nothing is there.

How do I go about populating 'Assets'? Or is it really necessary?

The Assets category "Default" in V2 is new, and is intentionally empty. It's there so you have a place to add your own assets, without having to first create a category.

If you don't need or want that category you can delete it or rename it to something more useful or meaningful to you, & then add assets to it.

Personally, I just deleted it.

@Wayne Burrows  "How do I go about populating 'Assets'? Or is it really necessary?"

Assets are very personal.  Often it is really handy to have things readily available on your workspace, rather than digging through one's backup files somewhere in the recesses of one's computer to find just the right thing.  One nice thing about an Asset is that you can double click on the little icon and then move over to your canvas and drag your mouse to size the asset any way you like.  If you single click on the little icon instead and then drag over to the canvas, you may get one huge layer (depending upon the individual asset) which you must then resize.

Just for fun, here is my Affinity Cats asset, which you might like to download and try importing into your Assets Panel, just to see how it works.  Click on the little hamburger icon at the top right of your Assets Panel, and choose Import Asset.  Then go to your Download location and click on the Affinity cats.afassets file.   You should now have a new Asset Category "Affinity Cats" in your Assets Panel.  The cats, by the way, are the three cat shapes Affinity formerly used.  You can colour them any way you want, or apply a style to them, just the way you would with a Rectangle Shape, an Ellipse Shape, etc.

Affinity cats.afassets

Here is what a much-populated Assets Panel can look like (personal choice).  Many of these were very generously offered here on the Forums in the Resources section.

Hi.
Not able to restore presets on either Designer or Photo.
They are saved in Application Support...Profiles...on Mac.
Affinity not showing them in Studio Preset Manager.

Already did reboot etc. Any ideas? Bug or missed something? See attached.

Thanks for the feedback.
Not able to locate Presets folder in Library / Application Support / Affinity Designer.
So I did test creating a new folder named Presets in the same folder as Profiles, + a restart.
If any ideas to continue / locate folder that would be great.

Are you looking in the top level Library folder or the normally hidden per user Library folder? Also, are you looking in any folder actually named "Affinity Designer" or one named "Affinity Designer 2"?

Finally, what is the actual file path name -- there should not be any with the spaces between the forward slashes.

Was looking in the hidden Library: Finder / Go / Library / Application Support / Affinity Designer 2.
Also checked the other library from HD / User...no Affinity Folder there.

Assume the hidden (1st one) is the correct Library?
When writing the folder path here, just for explaining.
Thank again @R C-R
