Show object type text

Recommended Posts

When Show object Type is turned off in the layers panel, it should show the object type after the layer name (as in V1). Now it is all or nothing and when the show object type is turned off, there is no way to see the difference between a pixel and an image layer (which can be quite frustrating, as depending on pixel or image, things work differently...)

Showing the object type after layer is also useful when filters eg are applied and titles were changed. It now shows a different icon for each filter applied (right v2) but in V1 (left) it was much easier to see what filter was applied. Even if you would know all the icons by heart,  on a big screen you really need to focus to differentiate the icons, where as text, it's super clear.

I do like the icons (looks much better then v1) but i think the filter name should be printed after layer title (when Show object type is turned off)

Hover over where the icon used to be and you will get a Tooltip popup showing you the layer/object type

Secondly it does not help to give a quick overview what is what, in 1 look

Isn't that what "Show Object Type" does?

You soon get used to all the new icons and they take up far less room

Your V1 layer screenshot above already shows 2 of the filter names that don't fit in the available space

But if you want them why not just add them, in brackets, when you rename the layer?

Let's agree to disagree on the matter of whether it gives a better overview or not (less/more room).

On the matter of the V1 Layer remark, the width of the panels can be controlled, so the full text can be made visible if needed and indeed i do add them now in the title when i change the title (which i was not doing when using v1)

Again it is not something critical, i just wanted to point out that when show object types is turned off, it becomes very difficult to notice the difference between pixel and image layer (without hovering). All the other layers have their own icons and are easier to spot.

Yup. They take so little room that I can barely tell which icon is which. :P

In other words:
+1 to @Zero1's proposal to optionally add the text description back.

Instead of adding back the layer type words - I found them distracting - I'd rather have larger layer type icons. As loukash stated, you can barely tell which icon is which. I'd happily sacrifice some horizontal space for larger icons. Perhaps an object to toggle between small icons for those who like them and larger icons for those of us who can't see them?

+1 for the text option for all 3 apps. I find these icons (plus all the redesigned tool icons) so frustrating I had to go back to using the V1 suite. They're too small, they're hard to recognize, and I just can't memorize them. Besides, it doesn't even show the icon for everything when objects are nested.
