bwackv
Hello, I didn't see anything about the selection tool in designer on the v2 features. Has it been improved at all? Was hoping for an object selection tool like in photoshop. (Does Photo v2 have it?). I really only use Designer, though. Second question - how does Designer v2 run on a 2017 macbook pro? my fans go insane with v1 right now.

That's as serious question: I've been a PS user since v2.5 until CS5.1, and I never considered its tools to be much superior to Photo 1 – or Photo 2, for that matter – with the exception of some few aspects of the PS crop tool. Some workflows are simply different. 24 minutes ago, bwackv said: how does Designer v2 run on a 2017 macbook pro? Given that I use the Affinity suite v1 & v2 on a 15" MBP mid-2012 (the very last model with matte display), as well as v1 on a 15" MBP 2008 (!), I'd expect it to run smoothly on a 2017 MBP. Some performance issues might rather be caused by the respective MacOS versions though. I use mostly El Capitan (Affinity v1 only), sometimes Catalina (v1 & v2). This taxes the GPU to the point where the fans kick in and so does the throttling. So gets slower the hotter it gets. If you avoid using any effects, it's fine, until it's not. Also, there's a bug in Affinity where it will use GPU even whilst backgrounded, in a different screen space. So you GPU will stay hot even when you switch away to Safari to keep up with Kanye's latest sermons. bwackv

I've brought it up a couple of times and been dismissed in various ways. I've also mentioned bugs in how they render at different zooms, where they no longer correlate with how they'd actually look as effects when exported at actual size. I don't know how or why this is all done so badly, especially given that some of their effects are quite good. The 3D effect, for example, is quite uniquely powerful for sharp edges, but it and the bevel and graded shadows only render correctly at 100% and higher zooms. If you zoom out to see your effects in context, they're distorted crazily. Perhaps effects and performance got sort of a abandoned at a certain point when the focus shifted to Publisher, where they're much less needed. Perhaps download the Trial version, and give it a run for awhile to see how it works with your workflow and projects?
