TopRobRoy Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 I'm trying out Affinity Photo V2. I'm no expert but does anyone know how I might tackle getting this globe on the table top, but keep the hand shake above it. The background is the table and I've placed a png of the globe? Thanks Quote
markw Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 On the Table & People layer select everything that is table top. Invert selection. With the selection still active click the Mask Layer icon found at the bottom of the Layers panel and choose Mask. (If you need to adjust or refine any mask later on, you can paint on it with the Brush tool. Black will hide what’s under it and White will reveal what’s under it). Finally, position the Globe layer underneath the Table & People layer and size it to fit where the table was. TopRobRoy Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 Thanks. I've managed some of that, but not sure where I'm going wrong. I want to now reveal what's under the table, but ensure the arms and anything that shows on the original table, is revealed? Quote
carl123 Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Use the selection brush to copy all the hands and arms over the table but none of the table Refine the selection and output to new layer Place the Globe over the table layer and resize as needed Position the hands and arms layer at the top of the layers stack (File attached) globe2.afphoto Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. markw Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Ah, your Mask layer appears to be empty. Before creating the mask make sure you have followed my first two steps. The area of selection must still be active before you create the Mask. As it is with what you have you could paint on the Mask layer with Black to hide what’s under it. And I see from your screenshot that you have the Globe nested in with the Mask, it needs to be pulled out from there and just sit at the bottom of the Layer stack. The attached file was saved with it’s History so you can see what I did. TopRobRoy Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 Ok. I've got it like yours now, I think. I select the brush and paint over the white, and you can see what I'm getting? I'm still learning but I want to use this product more soon and get more proficient. Quote
TopRobRoy Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 Thought I might send you this. If it lets me? I hope you don't mind. I appreciate your help for sure, but once I see what I'm doing wrong. I'm sure I'll get better. Globe and People at Table.afphoto Quote
thomaso Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 It appears helpful to have a look at some basic operations in video tutorials or the Affinity Help, for example https://affinity.help/photo2/English.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Selections/selections_create.html?title=Creating pixel selections For a selection of the white table surface only the Flood Select Tool can be useful, too https://affinity.help/photo2/English.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Selections/selections_flood.html?title=Flooding pixel selections Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
GarryP Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 I’ve attached a short video which shows one way to do what I think you want to do – I use Alt-click/drag (on Windows) to subtract from the selection at some points. You will need to take more time and care during the selection and refinement processes to get a better result than mine. (There will be other ways to to what you want, this was just quick.) 2022-12-02 13-45-02.mp4 Quote
TopRobRoy Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 Ah. That's very helpful and thanks for the links. They are helpful. I do need to spend some time on them. So yes, I will go and do a tighter job. Thanks for all your advice and assistance. Robert Quote
