Ciaran77
Hello Everyone, I'm new to the Affinity Forum (this is my first question), I'm not sure If I'm posting it correctly or in the right section, maybe someone could point me in the right direction, cheers. Anyway, I've been an Affinity user for the last few years and I love the applications. I just download and installed "Affinity Photo V2" and "Designer V2", I'm currently using Windows 10 Home Edition, and I’ve noticed something strange with regards to layers and masking, they aren’t working. The Layer "Thumbnails" are blank and the Layer "Mask Thumbnails" is also blank? When I tried to work with a Mask, nothing happens..... I’m miffed? I tried restarting Affinity Photo, I tried factory reset (even though I’ve just installed it), I’ve tried restarting my PC, but nothing works or corrects the issue, I even uninstalled and then reinstalled my "Wacom Pen Tablet" to see if that would correct the problems but to no avail? The odd thing about this was that when using the old version of "Affinity Photo V1" just last night, it was working fine, and then, out of the blue, the old version of "Affinity Photo V1" also started acting-up displaying the same problems. I thought that purchasing, downloading and installing the new Affinity products would solve the issue but it hasn’t.
Old Bruce
1. You need to click on the little "hamburger" menu in the layers tab and select show or generate thumbnails. 2. You'll need to click on the little triangle on the left of the layer 'magic-needle-...' to expand that layer, then you can click on the adjustment or filter layer and just start painting on its built in mask. Eventually you will find that all you nee to do is click on the area your red arrow ends at, no need to expand. Ciaran77
@Old Bruce Hello Old Bruce, thank you for taking the time to help me out, much appreciated. Bruce (maybe its me), in that, I'm reading and interpreting your instructions the wrong why, but, when I click on the "Hamburger" Drop down menu there's no "Generate Thumbnails" option? Below I've attached a image to show you what I see (in terms of options presented) when I click on the "Layers Hamburger Menu"
Old Bruce
Hmmm. I think it was just ignorance on my part. Sorry. Also I noticed a bit of a bug here on Mac. What I did was cycle through the various options fo the Thumbnail Background and I got the thumbnails to generate. I have to be honest here, I never actually look at the thumbnails and had misremembered what the correct term was. Ciaran77
@Old Bruce The failure to generate "Thumbnails Pictures" with the new Affinity Photo V2 application could be down to a bug or maybe its something to do with the "Windows 10 Home Edition OS" that I'm using, I'm not really sure. I've also noticed that I cannot work with any masks, When I try to paint on them nothing happens? Bruce, how to I forward this thread (that we've tried addressed) onto Affinity themselves? Choose the correct one for the OS and App you're using. If you're still having problems, please post in the Bug Forum. Just a brief post and link it to your post here. Since releasing V2, Serif has been very busy, and this forum, will be the lowest priority for them to be reading. They do read and respond in the bug forums. YassineProduct
In my case it was a small change in the configuration of the brush while using the mask, it happens sometimes, the solution? Just try to check the blend mode of the brush and make sure it's on "Normal", the screenshot below might locate you better.
