The file includes features from a later version of Affinity

Recommended Posts

Affinity Publisher 2 2.0.0. macOS 13.0.1

The publisher file is in a iCloud-synced folder.

  1. Created file with the latest version Affinity Publisher 1
  2. Opened the same file with Affinity Publisher 2
  3. Quit Affinity Publisher 2
  4. Re-open the file with Affinity Publisher 2
  5. "Failed to open document, The file includes features from a later version of Affinity."
  6. File also can no longer be opened with Affinity Publisher 1

Hi and welcome to the forum. There are several threads on this issue and I encourage you to add your experience to this thread:

Obviously your file doesn't include features from a later version of Affinity, you saved it from 2.0.0. But this has been happening to a few people and I don't think there's yet enough information as to what the cause could be. So the more information you can provide the easier it will for Serif to figure this out.

In the meantime, never save a v2 file over your original v1 documents. I back up my files daily regardless of which program I'm using because I've lost data too many times over the decades to trust anything.

If the file you're trying to open has linked images, you could try opening it without those available. For the book I'm publishing I keep all the images in a folder named images so I can just rename it to images2 and then open my file. Publisher will warn me they're not available. This may make no difference and you may get the same error message, but if the problem is with a link to a file then this might let you get the document open to recover your work. If you can get your document to open the first thing you should do is choose Save As and save it under a new filename.

Good luck

Can you recall what (if any) steps you did between steps 2 & 3?

If so and you have a backup of the V1 document, can you recreate the problem by following those steps?

If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.
