I have the trial version of AP2 and the Google Nik Efex plugins are detected as working in Preferences>PS Plugins, but when I select them, from the Filters dropdown menu, they don't open. There's no error message, and the action 'plugin' appears in the History panel. They work fine in AP1.

They need a pixel layer to work. If you have the raw layer embedded or linked from Develop Persona they'll be greyed out. Try merge visible or rasterise. Or send a pixel layer from develop.

Thanks Richard, but I'm working with pixel layer images, not RAW ones.

At what bit depth? Few if any compatible plugins work with 32 bit formats.

Hi R C-R,

Thanks for your reply.

The image bit depth is 24. I've never had to change this before. Usually I just import a jpg into AP and, after making the required adjustments, select the Nik Efex Silver Pro 2 plugin which immediately opens its own window with the jpg ready for b&w processing.

Thanks for the info.

There's no point in posting any jpgs. I don't think they're the problem, as it's happening with every jpg file. I've processed hundreds of jpgs with Silver Fx Pro in AP and never encountered this issue before. My workflow hasn't changed. Perhaps I'll uninstall and reinstall AP and Nik Efex. Perhaps the ggl versions of Nik Efex are no longer compatible with AP2, even though they show the 'working' status in the PS plugins panel.

I can confirm that Google version of Nik is compatible and operable with APV2. I have both versions of AP and it works with both. I'm running W10 Pro.

Hi everyone,

I'm facing this issue in previous AP Version (1.10.5) and now also in the V2.

Since a few days/weeks even after clicking on i.e. ColorEfex nothing happen, only it is in the Protocol.

Tested it with formerly edited Photos and new ones.

Attached the Settings for the Plugins.

cheers

Michael

Hi Michael,

Have you found a solution? I have just updated V1 to the 1.10.6 and have the same problem. I add the plugins in the usual way, but they don't respond anymore when I click on them.

I've not had any problems with the Nik Collection (Google Free version). I installed it a few years ago. It resides in the Program Files folder, and I then point my programs/apps to that folder. Seems to work fine that way.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your input.

I have moved the ggl nik collection folder to the same location as you have yours, rebooted and restarted AP, but there are no plugins detected at all now.

Does AP not point to the folder automatically, or do I have to do it manually? I don't remember doing this before.

Thanks.

Thanks Richard, but the linked information you've provided applies to DXO Nik Collection Vs 4 & 5. I have the ggl Nik Collection V3.

You have to add to the Plugin Search Folder list the parent folder where the NIK plugins are stored on your computer. Note that this may not be the same folder where the stand alone versions are stored. The plugins have a *.plugin extension while the stand alone apps have a *.app extension.

On my Mac, this is the Applications/Nik Collection folder. For you it may be different.

Hi Justin,

I've tried several things (changing folder and Search Folder, renamed it, restored it from a known working Backup).

Unfortunately all these things didn't fix the issue.

I really have at the moment no further idea. I guess we have to wait.

btw. I'm using a Mac mini M1, MacOS 13.0.1 (not sure if the Problem was before latest Update).

Which version of the NIK collection do you have?

In the end I decided to delete all traces of the ggl Nik Collection from my machine, download and re-install it (V1.2.11).

Now it works fine.

@justinpbrown71

Lucky you.
Also deleted everything and restored from a backup.
But the plugins still won't open.

A new installation does not work because I get the message that MacOS 10.7 or newer must be installed. I have MacOS 13.x on the computer.

@R C-R I'm using NIK Collection 1.2.11. This worked with Ventura and Affinity until 2 weeks before.

Hey @michunna apologies on the late reply,

Are you still having issues with this?

If this is an error you're getting when installing the Plugins it may be best to get in contact with DXO regarding this problem.

Additionally, according to their compatibility/support list for third party apps Nik Collection 5 is only officially compatible with V2, link below.

Hey Nathan,

thanks for your reply.

I just found the solution to the problem yesterday.
It's not because of Affinity Photo, it's because of the M1 Mac.

The old NIK software 1.2.xx was developed on Intel basis, so it runs in a Intel emulation on the M1 Mac. Affinity, on the other hand, runs natively in the Mac M1 environment.
If you check Rosetta in the Informations for Affinity, it starts in the Intel emulation and can also be used with the NIK software.

Maybe this will help other Users with the same Problem.
