Calvert
See attached . Same PC, same fonts, saved this file as pdf in ADesign, and opened in Flexisign, and Adobe and reopened in ADesign and all of them show messed up with simple font. Since ADesign cant export in other adobe files, Im limited in what I can export in, primarily vectors. Lower image is prior to saving in AD. above image is after. I REQUIRE it to be an accurate saving to be moved into another program for sizing and print. \You cant say Adobe wont let Affinity save in their format (.ai or .psd) as Adobe has allowed Sai for years. Affinity probably doesnt want to pay the $ for the ability.
Dan C
Hi @Calvert, Thanks for your report and our sincerest apologies for the delayed response here. We are exceptionally busy following the release of V2 and we thank you for your continued patience and understanding here. Can you please confirm for me, what are your PDF export settings in relation to fonts? These options can be found at the bottom of the PDF export window. Affinity is already able to export to .PSD, although we don't support exporting text to this format due to the differences in text engines between Affinity and Adobe, therefore exported text to PSD is rasterised to a pixel layer. Unfortunately the .Ai format is a proprietary format which Adobe do not release a public specification for - as far as I'm aware there is no option for any software company to pay for this ability, it would require Adobe to open the .Ai format and provide documentation for how to write .Ai files, which they do not offer currently. That is not true. I can list a hand full of programs that have the ability to; not only recognize, but edit and, even save once again as an .ai... back and forth. I personally use at least 3 programs daily that have this ability.
Dan C
As can be seen in the Adobe file type description for .Ai: Quote AI, which stands for Adobe Illustrator, is the proprietary Adobe file type for vector images. (...) Because AI is a proprietary Adobe file type, you’ll need to use Illustrator to create, edit, and save an AI file. But you can view AI files on several third-party programs, though those won’t give you full editing functionality I suspect the applications you are referring to are using either the .PDF or .EPS standard, in an '.Ai' wrapper - though this is just an assumption without deeper knowledge of these applications export code. These PDF/EPS files in an Ai 'wrapper' are not true .Ai files, but may be something that Illustrator can read, so I can certainly understand why you would believe this. We do not have any plans to add support for exporting to .Ai, as Adobe do not make the file format specifications public, and I do not believe we have any plans for backwards engineering the above 'wrapper' method that other apps may use. I hope this clears things up.
Calvert
According to SAI techs in multiple online meetings, I can create within their program and save as an authentic "Adobe Illustrator Legacy Version"(*.AI) ...which I have done for 3 yrs+ ... so your saying thats not a true ai file when I create it? Below is a test file created from scratch in a non adobe program that saved as .ai. I opened it in Illustrator and this is what I get. Now if you dont want to add support, thats up to you but thats a different topic.

Not sure if it's worth to develop the support for such an old format from now. Dan C and Old Bruce
